Five trips. One price.
If you travel between cities regularly, you already know how quickly separate bus fares can add up. There is the trip for work, the journey home to see family, the business appointment in another city, and the return journey you need to plan around everything else.
Each trip requires its own fare, and budgeting for several journeys in a month can become difficult.
What if, instead of paying for every eligible bus trip separately, you could pay one amount upfront and use it towards multiple journeys over the next 30 days?
That is the idea behind Intercity Pass, a new prepaid bus travel plan from IntercityNG designed for people who travel by road frequently.
With Intercity Pass, you pay ₦99,000 once for 30 days and can book up to 5 eligible bus trips, with up to ₦40,000 covered per trip. If a fare exceeds ₦40,000, you pay the difference.
The Pass is currently being introduced as a limited pilot, with places subject to availability.
But is it right for your travel habits? How does the coverage work? And what should you know before getting one?
Here is everything you need to understand about Intercity Pass.
What Is Intercity Pass?
Intercity Pass is a prepaid plan that allows you to book up to five eligible IntercityNG bus trips within a 30-day period for a one-time payment of ₦99,000.
Rather than paying the full fare for every eligible journey separately, you use your Pass towards the fare of each covered trip, up to the applicable limit.
Here is the offer at a glance:
| Feature | What you need to know |
|---|---|
| Price | ₦99,000 |
| Validity | 30 days from activation |
| Trip allowance | Up to 5 eligible bus trips |
| Coverage per trip | Up to ₦40,000 of the fare |
| Maximum fare coverage | Up to ₦200,000 across 5 trips |
| Additional fare | You pay any amount above ₦40,000 per trip |
| Passenger | The member only, one ticket per booking |
| Booking interval | One covered trip booking every 3 days |
| Renewal | Manual, with no automatic charge |
| Availability | Limited places during the pilot |
The important distinction is that the Pass is a defined travel allowance, not an unlimited travel subscription. It covers eligible bus trips only, and the rules governing bookings, fares and availability still apply.
How Does Intercity Pass Work?
Getting started involves contacting IntercityNG support, activating your Pass and planning your eligible trips within the 30-day period.
1. Message IntercityNG support on WhatsApp
Start by contacting IntercityNG support and asking about the Pass.
Because this is a limited pilot, support will confirm whether a place is available before providing payment details.
2. Pay ₦99,000 and activate your Pass
Once availability is confirmed and you complete payment, support activates your Pass.
Your 30-day validity period begins on the activation date. An enquiry or payment discussion does not start the validity period by itself.
3. Book up to five eligible bus trips
During your active period, you can use the Pass for up to five eligible bus trips.
There are two important restrictions to understand:
- Each booking covers one ticket for the Pass member. You cannot use one Pass booking to purchase several tickets for friends or family.
- You can book one covered trip every three days. If you make a covered booking on Monday, your next eligible booking opens on Thursday under the stated booking rule.
You also cannot book two trips with overlapping travel times under the Pass.
4. Pay the difference if your fare exceeds ₦40,000
The Pass covers up to ₦40,000 of an eligible bus fare.
For a fare of ₦35,000, the Pass covers the fare in full. For a fare of ₦45,000, the Pass covers ₦40,000 and you pay the remaining ₦5,000 when booking.
The coverage limit applies separately to each trip. It does not mean that you receive ₦40,000 in cash or that unused coverage can be transferred to another journey.
5. Use your trips before the 30 days end
Your Pass expires at the end of its 30-day validity period. Any unused trips expire with it; they do not roll over into another month.
The Pass also does not renew automatically. If you want another month, you must contact support and choose to renew.
What Does Intercity Pass Cover?
Knowing what is included is just as important as knowing the price.
Covered: Eligible bus trips on the IntercityNG platform with participating operators, subject to availability and applicable restrictions.
Not covered: Flights, train journeys, private charters, parcels, hotels, airport transfers, add-ons such as extra baggage or insurance, and service fees or taxes that are not part of the covered fare.
IntercityNG offers several travel and logistics services, but Intercity Pass is specifically for eligible bus trips. Purchasing a Pass does not give you a general allowance across all IntercityNG services.
Routes, operators and peak travel dates may also be subject to restrictions. The Pass does not reserve a seat, so you should check availability when planning your journey.
Is Intercity Pass Worth It? Let’s Do the Maths
A prepaid travel plan is not automatically the right choice for every traveller. Its value depends on how many eligible trips you take, the fares you pay and whether you can use your allowance within 30 days.
Rather than assuming the Pass will save you money, compare its ₦99,000 cost with what you would otherwise spend on your bus fares.
The examples below are illustrative, not guaranteed savings. Actual fares may change.
Example 1: Four trips at ₦30,000 each
Suppose you regularly travel between cities and expect to take four eligible bus trips during the month.
| Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Four individual fares at ₦30,000 each | ₦120,000 |
| Intercity Pass | ₦99,000 |
| Difference | ₦21,000 |
In this example, paying for the four trips separately would cost ₦120,000. The Pass costs ₦99,000, leaving a difference of ₦21,000 in your favour.
This comparison assumes all four trips are eligible, each fare is ₦30,000, and you do not incur additional charges outside the covered fare.
Example 2: Two trips at ₦30,000 each
Now consider someone who only travels twice in a month.
| Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Two individual fares at ₦30,000 each | ₦60,000 |
| Intercity Pass | ₦99,000 |
| Difference | ₦39,000 more |
In this situation, paying for the Pass would cost ₦39,000 more than paying for the two fares individually.
That is why travel frequency matters. If you only travel once or twice a month, paying per trip may be the better option.
Example 3: Three trips at ₦45,000 each
What happens when your usual bus fares exceed the Pass’s ₦40,000 coverage limit?
Consider three eligible trips, each costing ₦45,000.
| Calculation | Amount |
|---|---|
| Three individual fares | ₦135,000 |
| Pass coverage across three trips | ₦120,000 |
| Excess you pay: ₦5,000 × 3 | ₦15,000 |
| Pass payment plus excess fares | ₦114,000 |
| Illustrative difference | ₦21,000 |
Here, the Pass covers ₦40,000 of each fare, while you pay the additional ₦5,000 per trip. Your total outlay is ₦114,000, compared with ₦135,000 for the individual fares.
The difference is ₦21,000 under these assumptions.
However, if your fares are higher, you take fewer trips than expected or you cannot use your full allowance, the outcome may be different.

How should you decide?
Before purchasing, look at the bus trips you took over the last 30 days. Write down the fares you paid, then estimate how many eligible trips you expect to take in the next 30 days.
Compare that total with the ₦99,000 Pass price, accounting for any fare amounts above the ₦40,000 per-trip limit and other applicable charges.
The aim is not simply to use all five trips. It is to decide whether the Pass fits the journeys you genuinely need to make.
Who Is Intercity Pass Designed For?
Intercity Pass is intended for people who travel by road frequently enough to make a prepaid allowance worth considering.
Frequent intercity travellers
If work, business or family commitments regularly take you between cities, you may have a reasonably predictable pattern of monthly travel.
The Pass gives you a fixed upfront cost to compare against the fares you would otherwise pay separately.
Traders, consultants and professionals
People whose responsibilities involve regular travel between cities may find it useful to review their usual routes and monthly travel spending to determine whether the allowance suits their plans.
The important consideration is how often you travel and the fares you typically pay, rather than your job title alone.
Students and NYSC members
Students who regularly travel home and National Youth Service Corps members who move between their place of posting and home may also want to evaluate the plan.
If your travel schedule is predictable, you can compare your expected journeys with the Pass’s trip allowance, booking interval and validity period before committing.
People who want a more predictable monthly travel budget
Some travellers prefer to plan around one upfront payment instead of paying separate fares throughout the month.
Intercity Pass offers that structure for eligible bus journeys, but the commitment only makes sense if the price and restrictions suit your travel pattern.
One important point: if you usually take only one or two bus trips a month, you may be better off paying per trip. Intercity Pass is designed for frequent travellers, not everyone who occasionally needs a bus ticket.
Important Things to Know Before Getting Intercity Pass
Before making a payment, understand these rules and consider how they fit your plans.
One ticket per booking
Every covered booking is for one passenger: the Pass member. The passenger’s details must match the member’s identity requirements.
You cannot use the Pass to book several tickets at once, purchase tickets for friends or family, share your allowance or resell covered tickets. Anyone travelling with you must purchase their own ticket at the applicable full fare.
One covered booking every three days
You cannot make covered bookings whenever you want without restriction. After booking a covered trip, you must wait until the next eligible booking day under the three-day rule.
Plan your journeys around this interval, particularly if you need to travel several times within a short period.
The Pass does not guarantee a seat
Seats remain subject to availability. The Pass does not reserve a seat for you, and some routes, operators or peak dates may be excluded.
Check the available options before making travel plans, especially during busy periods.
Unused trips do not carry over
Your allowance expires with the Pass after 30 days. An unused trip cannot be transferred into your next month or converted into cash.
Before activating a Pass, consider whether you can realistically use the allowance during its validity period.
Cancellations have conditions
If you cancel at least 24 hours before departure, the trip may be restored to your allowance if the operator’s cancellation policy permits it.
Cancellations made later than that, or failure to travel, count as a used trip. If IntercityNG or the operator cancels the trip, the allowance is restored under the stated rules.
Check the applicable Terms for the full cancellation conditions.
There is no automatic renewal
Your Pass ends after its 30-day validity period. IntercityNG does not automatically charge you for another month.
If you want to continue using it, contact support to enquire about renewal and availability.
Refer a Friend and You Both Get ₦10,000 Wallet Credit
Intercity Pass also includes a referral benefit for eligible members.
When you refer a friend who buys their first Pass, identifies you to IntercityNG support as the person who referred them, and completes their first trip using the Pass, you and your friend each receive ₦10,000 in Wallet credit.
The credit is added to your respective IntercityNG Wallets, subject to the applicable Wallet rules and referral Terms. It is not a cash payment.
There is no public referral link under the current arrangement. Your friend should contact IntercityNG support on WhatsApp and identify you as their referrer.
If you already have a Pass, you can explain how it works to someone who travels frequently and encourage them to check whether it suits their own needs.
